The "Life to Eagle" Process: A Training Presentation for Scoutmasters, Eagle Coaches, Committees, and Parents
The Many Waters Advancement Committee fields many questions about the "Life to Eagle" process; at the monthly Eagle approvals sessions, at Roundtable, as we go about the District to do Eagle Boards of Review, in phone calls, and through emails. This process is done a little differently by each Unit.
Over time, as new adults come into the Troop, become leaders, and begin to work with Eagle candidates, the process transmorgrifies. Therefore, we intend for all unit leaders who work with Eagle Scout candidates (Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Chairs, Committee Members, Eagle Coaches, Unit Commissioners, and especially, the parents of Life and Star Scouts) to read this
Training Presentation (4.71 MB) and use it as a guide. It will:
- Give the exact requirements for Active Tenure, Leadership, and Merit Badges.
- Illuminate the Approvals process, including the correct use of “Concept Approval.”
- Detail the Eagle Project’s “Comprehensive Plan.”
- Give exact information for managing the Eagle Packet through the Eagle Board of Review.
- Give basic information on the Eagle Court of Honor.
- Mention specific (intended) roles for Adult Leaders.
- Give updated information on Special Needs Eagle Candidates.
- Provide useful “background” information.
- Show or list the correct forms and how to fill them out.
This is not intended for presentation as a slide show (another document will fill that role). It does not replace the Life to Eagle Packet, or any official BSA Handbooks. It is meant to be read on-screen or via printed copy. It is also not intended for the Scouts to read or use; they are given plenty of information in the Life to Eagle Packet.
This is the first edition. If, as you read it, you see definite errors or misrepresentations of the requirements, please contact the Advancement Chair, Holly Peirson at 651-464-6743 (home), 612-309-5019 (cell), or send an email to hpbirdscouter@msn.com.
