Venturing Crews

Are you at least 13 years of age and completed with 8th grade? Many Waters District has several opportunities for boys and girls to join our many Venture crews throughout the district. Some have specific focuses like skiing or hunting but many others are not specific but just do everything they can to get into the outdoors. If you would like to learn more about Venturing or would like to join any one of our crews, contact Tim Anders at 651-254-9128 and he will put you in contact with a crew in your area.

Friends of Scouting

The Family Friends of Scouting season is upon us. Paul Schultz has been working very hard to secure presentation dates from all our packs, troops and crews. If you have not set a date, or need help planning your FOS presentation, please contact District FOS Chair Paul Schultz at 651-426-9128 or pschultz1p@comcast.net. Many thanks to those units that have already held presentations and the quick turnaround in getting their packet into the Scout service center.

Ice Fishing Derby

Due to poor ice conditions and recommendations from the Department of Natural Resources and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s office we have CANCELED this event for 2012.

Klondike Derby/Winter Campout 2012

This year’s Klondike Derby was held January 13-15, 2012 at Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp. There were 200 Many Waters Scouts and Scouters taking part in all the fun and excitement at this year’s Klondike Derby. Thanks to a last minute snow fall, the always favorite sled races were still able to be ran. Congratulations to David Kasper and Tom Merino for putting on such a fabulous event.

Popcorn

Contrary to what you may have heard, there will be a spring popcorn sale this year. If your unit would like to participate, please contact Denny Hebrink and he will be sure your unit is signed up. We will have a brief information session prior to the March roundtable and fireside chat.

Roundtable

Everyone is invited to attend this event on the first Thursday of every month. This is a 90 minute opportunity to hear general announcements and attend sessions to hear and share activities and events that your’s and other units do to make their programs as fun as possible for the youth. They are held at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Forest Lake starting at 7:30 PM. Hope to see all of you there.

Recharter, Recharter, Recharter

By now, all unit leaders should have their recharter packets. I know Randy is waiting anxiously for the first unit to turn in their error-free, completed recharter paperwork. Pack recharters will be due at the March roundtable and can be turned in to Randy at the registration table starting at 7:00 PM. Please contact Randy Miller at 651-429-1820 or
RandyMiller.ManyWaters@q.com.

Good Neighbors, Good Times

Boy, do we have an opportunity for you. Is there a fellow volunteer who always goes above and beyond the call of duty? Did another Scouter help out when you couldn’t go on that weekend camping trip? Now is the time to nominate those folks for a district award. The Star of the North Award and the District Award of Merit are a wonderful ways to say “thank you”, and to get some recognition for that well-deserving volunteer. You can find the nomination forms online at http://manywaters.nsbsa.org/Recognition/RecognitionNominations.aspx. The District Award of Merit (the highest award a district can give) and Star of the North forms are due March 1st to Tim Anders. The Star of the North Award is given to leaders who, during the past year, have given that extra bit of enthusiasm which is so much a part of a successful program. This can be anyone involved in a district level or anyone who participated on one of the special district events. We would hope every unit could nominate at least one Scouter.

Star of the Future
The Many Waters District “Star of the Future” Award is given to Scouts who, during the past year, have given that little bit of enthusiasm which is so much a part of a successful program. This can be a Scout involved in a pack, troop or crew or someone functioning on a district level, camp staff, or who assisted with one of the special district events. Nominations are due in by March 1st and nomination forms can be found on the Many Waters Website.

The 2012 Pinewood Derby

Our Many Waters activities crew is working hard to plan the Many Waters District Pinewood Races for 2012. This event is for Lion Cubs through 5th grade Webelos, so even though you may have already transitioned to a troop by this date, you are still eligible to participate. The derby is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Forest Lake. Please mark your calendars. Watch the website for sign-up forms and additional information.

Webelos Transition

It is that time of the year for those currently in 5th grade to start looking for the next step in Scouting. You should start working with your Webelos den leader and the Scoutmaster for the troop you would like to transition to now to ensure the smooth transition to becoming a Boy Scout. If you have any questions on the process, please contact Brian Edgell, Webelos transition chair at 651-762-7701 or Tim Anders at 651-254-9128.

Getting Published
If you’d like a picture or story published in the Many Waters section of the Navigator or eNavigator, please forward those to the council, care of Tim Anders by the first of the month. We will do our best to get them included.
